New Season 2017

posted 16 Nov 2017, 04:09 by Admin Cherrybomb   [ updated 16 Nov 2017, 04:10 ]

Cherries have been running a little late this year due to the cooler weather in early November. The past week has been catch-up and we have the first variety, Burgsdorf . They're not  a great cherry but at $7 per kg they are a bargain.

See you on Saturday.

Oh please forgive our unfinished cherry sales shed. We have been delayed due to the recent death of  Shane's mother and preparations for her funeral. We should have it completed over before the season kicks into full gear in December.

That's All Folks!

We got picked out by 3pm today and gave entrants their entry fee back.

Thank you all to our regulars and newbies. We hope you picked some fine fruit and got value for money.

Hope to see some regular faces again next year.

Thank you also to our regular staff: Ralph, Ian, Jacinta, Vanessa and Bernadette for their valuable contribution. I'd have been in real trouble without these hard working, trust worthy individuals.

Due to some cooler weather coming in we won't be open for 2-3 days. The last variety of fruit Lamberts and Black Boys need more time to mature.

We have managed to save a good crop of Lamberts from the Lorikeets by buying some new nets and spreading them over the crop.

It's a lot of work mucking about with the drop-over nets but worth it.

See you soon.

Lapins and Simone are now pretty much picked out. Despite the birds and bats some of you managed to pick some fine fruit with good size about it.

We have some Sweethearts (Sumste) still available and some old favourites: Blackboy and Lamberts.

The weather has cooled a little so we will NOT be open tomorrow (Tue 27th Dec) or Wed 28th Dec. If the weather remains cool we cannot guarantee being open until the fruit is ready to pick. Keep an eye on our calendar Season Calendar to find out when we will be open again.

Went into the orchard this morning to inspect the Rons Seedling variety of cherries and .... all gone! I could tell the bats had been at them because they pluck them neatly off the stem and devour the whole thing where the birds nibble at the fruit leaving half-eaten cherries on the trees. And I know the bats are in the trees because I spot them at night and there was about 50 of them in the gums by the orchard a few nights ago. Amazingly they're very silent in flight and majestic. A most fascinating animal but I wish they'd dislike me a little more.

The shrill chirping of Rainbow Lorikeets and either Musk or Scaly-Breasted Lorikeets was deafening and naturally they were having a feast of it. I understand they're native birds seeking out food sources but gee it's demoralising.

We've lost all the Bing cherries, most of the Van and now the Rons and now they've started on the Black Boys. I'm reckoning by season's end about 50% or perhaps more will have been fed to the wildlife.

I need to install the large overhead nets but I haven't got a spare $60,000.
